Our branch awarded college scholarships in the amount of $1200 each to two students from Bellevue Community College last spring. They were:
* Natasha Mercado
* Monica Myers
Our ability to do so was directly related to the generosity of branch members participating in the holiday party/fundraiser.
Our impact on college students goes way beyond that. Branch members Kelvie Comer and Carolyn Hayek were instrumental in organizing a fund-raiser at this spring’s state AAUW convention to fund local students to attend AAUW’s National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL), which was held in the spring in the DC area.
With substantial help from donations from our branch members and many others from across the state, we raised over $6,000 in just a few weeks and were able to support eight students to attend the conference who would not otherwise have been able to do so. Six of those students were from UW-Bothell! These eight, combined with other students from the state, allowed us to set a record in attendees from Washington.
AAUW listed 25 students and staff from Washington State at this year’s conference! That is far more than we have ever had in the past. Thank you, Kirkland-Redmond Branch, for your leadership in this area.
