Branch History

The organization of the Kirkland-Redmond branch of AAUW began in January, 1977, with its charter being granted on June 20, 1977, with an initial membership of 33.  The first official meeting of the branch was held the following September with an attendance of 40.  By the second meeting membership had jumped to 49.  A wide variety of programs have been held over the years that have focused on women’s issues, art and cultural programs, and community concerns.

The branch has always supported philanthropic projects, such as college scholarships, community organizations, and the Expanding Your Horizons conference for middle and high school girls on the Eastside, which is done jointly with other Eastside branches.

In addition to our fundraising to support these local philanthropic projects, the branch encourages contributions to the national AAUW Funds.  Each year the branch is able to honor several members as Named-Grant Honorees based on the total contributions of branch members to AAUW Funds.
